ISFiT Dialogue Groups 2009
«If Arafat and Netanyahu had participated in the Dialogue Groups it would not have been a conflict in the Middle East anymore» (Israeli participant, 1997) 


The ISFiT Dialogue Groups were first established in 1997 as an initiative to peace building in practice by the International Student Festival in Trondheim. Since then the Dialogue Groups have gathered students from the conflict areas of South Africa, Northern Ireland, Guatemala, Colombia, Sri Lanka, Kosovo, Kashmir, Israel/Palestine, Sri Lanka, Balkan, USA/Iran, Russia/Chechnya, Ethiopia/Eritrea, Sudan and Great Lakes-region (Burundi, DR Congo, Rwanda and Uganda).

ISFIT 2009: Building a Future



The International Student Festival in Trondheim will be held from 20th of February to 1st of March 2009. The main theme is Peace Building and over 400 students from across the globe will participate in the festival, working in smaller workshops with different aspects of «Building a Future». The festival can offer a diverse and exciting cultural program, as well as interesting and unique program of plennary sessions with Nobel Peace Prize laureates Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Dr. Shirin Ebadi among others.

The Student Peace Conference 2009

In occasion of the Student Peace Prize's 10 year anniversary, all of the former laureates are invited to Trondheim to participate at the Student Peace Conference. 26th of February to 1st of March. The conference shall be a safe arena for dialogue between young people who have made an extraordinary effort towards establishing peace, democracy and human rights. A main goal is to arrange for future dialogue, network building and solidarity between the young peacebuilders.

All the previous laureates, as well as this years winner, of the Student Peace Prize will participate in a Plennary Session at Dragvoll D15, Thursday the 26th of February 2009. The laureates of the Student Peace Prize know that student involvement may have serious consequences. Because of their choice to take action, several of them are being persecuted in their home countries. How high is the price you are willing to pay for your involvement? The laureates are coming from countries such as East-Timor, Burma, Zimbabwe and Colombia. During this session they will share their stories.

Exhibition To mark the occasion of its 10th anniversary the Student Peace Prize will present the Student Peace Prize Exhibition of 2009. This exhibition includes some never-before-seen photographs presenting the courage needed when struggling against some of the world’s most brutal regimes to restore human rights, democracy, academic freedom and peace. The main message in the Student Peace Prize Exhibition will be involvement and solidarity for students of the future.

The Exhibition will be held in Trondheim, at Samfundet from 20th to 26th of February and in Olavshallen the 27th of February.

Dialogue Network offers a virtual workspace with an official and an internal site aiming at promoting peace building and conflict resolution. The official part of the network is open to all visitors, and will be offering information on peacebuilding, dialogue and projects within the network. The internal site consists of groups divided into organizations, which can share information on their cause, project development, challenges and promote cooperation on different levels, as well as personal communication and network sharing. The Student Peace Prize
For ten years the Student Peace Prize has supported young people around the world making extraordinary efforts to promote peace, democracy and human rights. 

Every second year the Student Peace Prize is awarded to a student or student's organization on behalf of all Norwegian students. The idea of a peace prize for students was set into life during ISFIT in 1999. Before that festival Norwegian students experienced that students fighting for positive changes in conflict areas, never seemed to get any needed attention by politicians or the media. This in spite of the fact, that students often play important roles in struggles against anti-democratic regimes.
